HUMPHREY
BOGART est un acteur américain né HUMPHREY
DEFOREST BOGART le 23/01/1899 à New York. Il
mesure 1, 74 m. Son père, DEFOREST, était
chirurgien et sa mère, MAUD, illustratrice
de magazine.
Sorti de
la Trinity School, il suit des études de médecine
à la Phillips Academy d’Andover (Massachusetts)
mais sera renvoyé pour des raisons
disciplinaires. Timonier sur le transport de
troupes « Leviathan » pendant la
Première Guerre Mondiale, il sera blessé à
la lèvre supérieure en 1918 et en gardera
la cicatrice.
Il devient
garçon d’office dans un théâtre dirigé
par WILLIAM A. BRADY, un ami de la famille
pour qui il terminera le scripte du film «
LIFE » en 1920, sur le compte de la
World Film Corporation de New York. Il débute
sur les planches à cette époque et épouse
la comédienne HELEN MENKEN le 10/05/1926. Il
la quittera un an plus tard pour se marier le
21/08/1928 avec l’actrice MARY PHILIPS.
HUMPHREY
signe un contrat avec la Fox en 1930 mais
connaîtra son premier triomphe public grâce
au théâtre et à la pièce « THE
PETRIFIED FOREST », en 1935.
Divorcé en 1938, il se marie avec l’actrice
MAYO METHOT. HUMPHREY commence à être
reconnu au cinéma dans « LA
GRANDE ÉVASION » en 1941
et obtient une nomination aux Oscars en 1944
avec « CASABLANCA ».
Il divorce
pour se remarier le 21/05/1945 avec LAUREN
BACALL, qu’il aura rencontré sur le
tournage du « PORT DE L’ANGOISSE ».
Ils seront parents d’un fils, STEPHEN,
et d’une fille, LESLIE. Après avoir
remporté l’Oscar du meilleur acteur en
1952 pour son rôle dans « L’ODYSSÉE
DE L’AFRICAN QUEEN »,
il décède le 14/01/1957 à Los Angeles (Californie)
d’un cancer de l’œsophage. |
