CATE
BLANCHETT est une actrice australienne née
CATHERINE ELISE BLANCHETT le 14/05/1969 à
Melbourne. Elle mesure 1, 74 m. Son père,
ROBERT, est officier dans la navy américaine,
et sa mère, JUNE, professeur d’école.
CATE a un frère aîné, BOB, et une sœur
cadette, GENEVIEVE.
Elle étudie l’économie et les beaux-arts
à l’Université de Melbourne mais
abandonne très vite pour se tourner vers l’art
dramatique. Diplômée en 1992 du National
Institut of Dramatic Arts de Sydney, elle
joint la troupe de la Sydney Theatre Company
et obtient un Rosemont Award en 1993
pour son interprétation dans la pièce « OLEANNA »
écrite par DAVID MAMET.
Au cinéma, elle remporte plusieurs récompenses
dont un Empire Award et un Golden Globe Award
pour le rôle d’Elizabeth 1er dans « ELIZABETH »
et se voit nommée aux Oscars
en 1999. CATE épouse le scénariste ANDREW
UPTON le 29/12/1997, et donne naissance à 2
enfants : DASHIELL, né en 2001 et
ROMAN, né en 2004.
Elle participe dès 2001 à la trilogie du « SEIGNEUR
DES ANNEAUX » dans
laquelle elle interprète Galadriel. |
